Giant snails! Egads! Okay, I guess they aren't giant, but for snails, they're freaking huge, eh? I guess the only to-scale shot I got is the one with Zac's hand in there, but for the record, this dude was a hefty one. Zac has a huge hand too, so I don't even know if that does it justice. I thought this fellow was rather cute, and watching them eat is adorable. He was so big you could hear him munch the leaves!
Mr. Snail's shell was probably a good 6 inches long. His head was the size of 20 normal sized snails...or something like that?
Neat-o, huh? We saw a bunch of empty shells around but only two snails. This guy was pretty awesome! I had no idea snails got that gigantic! Macro Monday

oh my goodness, these photos are incredible I love the details.
How would that be in butter? Isn't that how snails are eaten? He doesn't look as slimy as some I see here..of course they are tiny compared to this monster... Michelle
Thank you for stopping by my playground. I really appreciate it. Wow that snail is just huge and it's uglier than all get out. But your photo's are splendid. I just love 'em Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week ahead :)
Oh my word, we have no snails where I live - you have certainly captured them in great detail.
Yikes ! these beasts ! This summer I had an invasion in our garden ! I had to put a powder because they ate all plants. After that I counted around 100 shells ! Imagine ! I had never seen so many snails in my whole life ! Your specimen is really big !
Now that's kinda creepy if you ask me....you're brave to even think of touching it. LOLOLOL
But, I must say, the photos are stupendous!!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog Saturday and leaving such a sweet, sweet comment.
Have a great week ahead.
Love it! I'm writing an essay about molluscs at the minute, and snails feature highly. I think they're quite cute, actually - if you hold your finger in front of them, they'll usually reach out with their feelers and touch it.
Oh, wow! I've never heard of such a thing! Amazing.
Beautiful photos too!
Wonderful macro shots with lots of details :)
When I was young I used to put salt so they will not creep on the wall. Am I mean? ^)^

Great photos Jill, but EWWW! Slimy subjects indeed.
Smashing photos! My goodness, I've certainly never seen a snail that big!
Can anyone tell me why I have a strong aversion to slugs, yet I find snails appealing and cute? Odd, isn't it?
This is really big and not so good looking.. but the pictures is great!:-)
fabulous pictures - but it grossed me out a bit!
beauty is in the eye of the beholder! And not every photo has to be beautiful - very interesting!
SNails!
Jill: That is one big snail.
Huge! Wow!
Who knew??????? Loved this post! I heard myself chuckle!
Wow, what a snail. The photo with a hand for perspective really helped give it scale. Enormous, in a cute, slimy way.
Greetings Jill,
I'm a grad student in a Lit & Environment program at the University of Nevada, Reno. I'm doing a seminar paper that involved me researching snails in Trinidad -- if you have the time, I'd like to ask you a few questions about this post.
Cheers,
Kyle
