Magpie Jay

Ah, the Magpie Jay. These are from Costa Rica, early 2009, in Santa Rosa NP. We were setting up our tent and there were parrots, deer, various other birds, and a few Magpie Jays assisting. I was so excited about this bird (look at him, he's pretty fancy pants), that I wasn't really taking great pictures. He was really close and I didn't even have to zoom in with the (500) lens, so that was pretty cool. I was handholding it and shaking (I get all shaky when I get excited about getting a cool bird picture, since they are so often hard to get) or something and ended up cutting off some of his tail and those crazy head feathers, which later I was little annoyed about. But whatever, these birds were really cool! Abc Wednesday (J)

yea, that was a cool bird alright. He even has a necklace. :) I know how hard it is to handle the long lens. But it is worth it. When you get shots like that. :)

Oh....what a cool bird! I love those fancy head feathers. You have great captures of him! I know what you mean about getting shaky when looking at a cool bird through the lens. Although I wouldn't know about using a 500mm lens because I don't have one! :-)

What an unusual bird. I grew up around magpies, but never anything that looked like that. Great bird, and great pics!
