Sea Lion Snuggle

California Sea Lions! We saw them yesterday in Crescent City. We see them in Humboldt sometimes, off the South Spit or a lone one lounging at the marina, but not too often. So I was happy to see that there were about 25 of them at the harbor in CC. My World Tuesday, Outdoor Wednesday
The sea lion in the top picture and the two below was my favorite. It seemed he had found the perfect pillow-he was sleeping so hard. When all the others would shift or open their eyes, this guy would just barely roll over and get even more comfortable. Quite cute. I said I think the harbor seals look like muppets, I think the sea lions resemble teddy bears more or less.
They seemed awfully comfy until one or two crawled over another one and then the infamous sea lion barking ensued. Hey, I'd be mad too if I had 600 pounds of sea lion crawling over me. Words were exchanged a few times but overall, they all seemed real content. There were quite a few in the water and one of them seemed to be making a game out of chasing a few grebes, kinda funny to watch.
Their positions crack me up...they look relaxed almost to a painful point, with their heads hanging backwards and practically flopping over. Good stuff!

I love the first at the top, and fifth one up from bottom best, yet they are all swell images. Their rose brown fur is so beautiful with the lighter faces, too cute. Thanks for sharing!

If it weren't for blogging, I'd never have known blue-birds exist outside songs and cartoons. And if it weren't for this post, I might never have known sealions could relax.

They really are chilled out in these shots.

They are so cute and snuggly looking..great photos! Too bad they're also amazingly nimble hunters with voracious appetites! No wonder they look so tired.

Kinda difficult to imagine a 600 lb creature could be so cute and cuddly. These are all great!

Your photos are amazing! I have never seen a sea lion in real life. They look so cute! We only have seals here and when I was young there were plenty of them following our sailboat. And during the nights we heard them singing. But today the population has decreased very much.
Thanks for sharing!

They are so cute, and you've captured them so well. They *do* look very cuddly, though I'm not as convinced of their benign intentions to the grebes as you are.

A Sea Lion actually kissed my mother-in-law in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. What an act! Adore your close-up photographs. It seems to be your niche.
