The last time we went here we saw...hm, nothing? It was a few months ago, crazy windy and freezing cold. (it was still really windy and cold the other day) But there were a couple hours sans rain on Monday, so we decided to try it out again. The winter rain had totally transformed the place - lots of water, lots of waterfowl. Skywatch
I watched what I thought were two geese doing the deed, but realized when I grabbed the binos, it was actually a Red-tailed hawk, Peregrine Falcon, and Northern Harrier fighting - badass!! I think the red-tailed had snagged the peregrine's duck lunch, and the harrier just happened to be right there. Gnarly stuff. The peregrine was in and out flushing up all sorts of stuff after that. Those birds are pretty awesome.
There were tons of swallows (violet greens, cliff, trees, northern rough winged) all over the place, flying right in front of us. Also a couple obligatory harriers, surf scoters, savannah sparrows, common mergansers, shovelers, buffleheads, pintails, green winged teal, cinnamon teal, scaup, canada geese, etc. Completely different than when we were there last time. Plus, the clouds were all pretty lookin.' I didn't bring the 500 with me because it was really windy and cold and I didn't feel like carrying it.
