They have such personality, I love watching them.

Such a beautiful bird. So cute.

Look at those beautiful feather markings! Amazing patterning.
I like quail for their goofy carelessness about humans. They're not so much fearless as unaware. And all the time, the black top knot is bobbing.

Great quail shot! The layering of the breast feathers is so intricate!

A few days ago my 6-year-old grandson made some comment about a newt so I went back and found the newt pictures you posted some days back. He was in such awe!

What an exquisite bird Jill! I was thrilled the other day to hear a couple of quail near our garden. Last year they disappeared and I feared the Cooper's hawk got them.

We saw a couple on our walk along the river today. Must be quail season. Today was one of those days i wished I'd brought my camera.

I don't think I've ever seen a quail. They certainly look too pretty to eat!

I miss California. I posted a picture of Armstrong woods this week. I miss green. Nevada is very brown, though we do have quail. But not as good looking as California quail

A good one. I've had one or two wander across my path recently. Perhaps I can get a snap of one to be prepared for the ever present Q quandry for the next round.

Beautiful shot of a quail. I had to borrow a bird photo for this post! Otherwise I pride myself on taking my own pics. This time I got help from several sources.
Best wishes,
Anna

Wow! This is a fantastic shot of a quail. They live around us here in the norCal foothills, but they always move so fast that all I can detect is the little feather sticking up and out on their heads. I didn't know they had those beautiful breast feathers that look sort of like fish scales.
