Last weekend we (Zac, my brother, and I) went back up to Fern Gully/Canyon in Prairie Creek State Park (part of Redwoods National and State park). Things were a little greener and a little wetter than last time we were there (October). Despite the rain, much fun was had. I think the rain added to the experience. Plus, no one else was there - sweeeet!
The water was a little higher than last time and the fallen trees and sticks used to get across weren't always so trustworthy - part of the fun! So, we all had self diagnosed trench foot (eww!) by the time we were done. But hey, that didn't stop us. Abc Wednesday (P), Watery Wednesday
I really love this spot, even though it drags in a good amount of tourists in the summer I'm guessing. The canyon walls are covered with ferns and other brilliant greenery. Last time, I hiked in the 5 miles to get there and that trail is pretty great too. This time, because of the rain, we drove around to the beach and just walked the few minutes to the canyon from there. An elk herd was ...right there. A little too close when we got out of the car. I tried to get a few shots but the rain was pretty heavy and it wasn't working. Either way, they were pretty snazzy and seemed to be enjoying the usual North Coast weather. (I am easily excitable, below)
