Alligator Lizard!

Aw yeah! Finally saw another Alligator Lizard. It's been a couple years and I've been wanting to find one because they're rather awesome and damn photogenic. Last time I saw one I didn't have any good camera gear. This guy was very obliging and I thank him.
He's a California Alligator Lizard. Actually, a Sierra Alligator Lizard. Check out his fancy saffron color, that's a pretty nice hue, eh? I found him crossing a trail last week near Nevada City, CA. He was fairly small for an alligator lizard. Zac and I saw one in Texas that was 16 inches long. This guy was smaller, probably mainly because some of his tail had been bitten off. It looked like it was already starting to grow back though Macro Monday

I've never seen one so yellow/green. Love the "smile" on the last shot. They are interesting (and occasionally fierce) creatures.

What do they say, great minds think alike. I hope you didn't have as much trouble chasing down your lizard as I did mine. When finally cornered they can be cooperative.

He's adorable - the light and detail are terrific in these images.

Ooh, say cheese! I am wondering if this is the same as the "snake lizards" we see around here in so. Cal? Although your guy has more green and our guys are more gray...I guess that means they are not the same...duh! Fabulous captures, Jill!

Oh this chap is so cool, way too good looking, wonder if he knew it, wonder how many times he practiced poseing before you arrived... These images are such fun and the bottom one... well, that is poster stuff Jill, got to think of a great caption~

Such an aptly named lizard. Wonderful photos!

What a cutie! I love the yellow color he displays. I rescued an alligator lizard from a cat several months ago, and found the ones around here are brownish colored - but just as beautiful.

He's beautiful - and great pics!
I had to go look him up. He give the impression - intimidating and cute at the same time - of being much bigger than he is.
