Dipper Fledgies!

How great are these little guys? We saw a Dipper pair with 4 fledglings last week at one of our field sites. After we were done in the morning, I was able to snag some photos of the fledgies. Luckily, I had brought the camera with me that day. We watched them for quite a while- they were pretty cute trying to figure out how to dip and forage on their own.

Very cute! That top little guy looks like he's got quite the feisty personality. :)

hee. I think they'd have be feisty to dive into the INSANE foamy turbulent crazy water they plunge into ALL DAYYYY LONGGGGG. The most macho bird; the bullrider of birds. =)

One of your pics reminds me of a children's book I once had about a bird that refused to leave it's nest. :-)

I've never had the chance to see a dipper, adult or juvenile, so I'm in awe ... they are over-the-top cute.

Cute for sure Jill! I still like the name "Water Ouzel" and they are one of the most amazing birds to me.

I can't imagine how tough it is for those little ones trying to learn to forage in the freezing moving water!

I was able to catch one preening on a log over the creek this weekend in Lassen Park. Photos soon to come ;-)
