Sundews!

Ahhh...carnivorous plants - how exciting! A couple of our northern field sites are thriving with the sundew (Drosera anglica). It took me a while to figure that out (they are so tiny!). I had not actually seen these fine fellows before (or at least was not observant enough to notice them). Glad I finally did because well, they are kinda awesome. The droplets are for catching those tasty unassuming insects - what vicious plants! (you can see a bug in that second photo). When I was done with actual field work, I went back out with the macro lens and spent a while taking their pictures. This proved somewhat difficult because of their size...glad I have the extension tube! Today's Flower Macro Monday Nature Notes

Nice. I got my 1st carnivorous plant in college. When I came home from classes one day and the TINY venus fly trap leaf was closed, I held it to the light and saw a TINY fruit fly. I was so proud! =) Very nice work seeing them in the wild--so much more exciting.
