I was up at 0530 and watched the sun slowly make it's appearance...it put on an excellent show. Sunrise at White Sands: highly recommended. I walked around for a couple hours with the camera, watching the shadows come and go over the dunes. Each direction looked totally different with the changing light on the sand.
Later on, we hiked back out to the car and decided to stay and play another day. So we did the 5 mile loop in the dunes, (saw a handful of the bleached earless lizards (photo at the top) but only one sat still for me, the rest were awfully hyperactive), gorged on lunch and then went 'sledding.' That's fun stuff. Later we hiked back to the tents and I watched a beetle eat a sesame stick for 45 minutes. I was enthralled by him and could hear him chewing. I'm so easily entertained.
