Leakey, Texas. Population 387.

That's pretty, huh? It's so pretty I've decided to go back there yet again. Yup, back to Leakey (Lake-y, not a leaky faucet), Texas for one more field season with the Golden-cheeked Warblers. The initial plan was to stay in Mississippi and work for Zac's project but we both agreed I would likely lose my mind if I had to stay in north central Mississippi for 5 months straight. Hill Country will be a little bit different without Zac or Melissa there (the three of us worked together for 3 seasons, it's where Zac and I met) but I know the area well and have an odd attachment to the place. Last year was the first year in 3 years I wasn't there, and I really missed it. So I'm Looking forward to heading back that way for work and play! The season is from early March through most of June (more or less) and then I'll come back to MS and possibly do some other field work at Zac's sites for a couple months. But right now I'm looking forward to Leakey! Watery Wednesday Skywatch SOOC

I have never been to this area of TX. It does look pretty - what time of the year will you go? Remember to tell me if you come through CO again!

Looks like a beautiful place to be for 5 months. I love little towns, if you can call this a town.

I will have to look into Leaky today and see what it is all about and exactly where it is. Always looking for new destinations.

I hear "Leakey" and I think "fossils and skulls and stuff" so I was pleased to hear of warblers instead!

The hill country was one of the few parts of Texas I've enjoyed though I've heard there are many nice places along the edges. It's that vast middle, no mountains and no ocean, that gets me down.

That's very pretty. What a reminder that I haven't been out to visit much of nature lately. :-(

Good for you, Jill. I'm glad you'll be spending time in a place and doing something you know you'll enjoy. I'll have to try to get down there to see you while you're here in the Lone Star State.

If all of it is as beautiful as this picture, you can't help but love it there. Isn't it odd how attached we can get to certain places. I feel that way about our outback here as well.

Hill Country is a great place to lose yourself in your work or play. Nicely captured sky as well.

Thank you for teaching me to pronounce "Leakey" correctly. As I read your thoughts, Willie Nelson is singing in the background, "On the road again. Just can't wait to get on the road again......."
