Boquillas Canyon

I'm not 100% into this photo but here it is anyway. Early morning shadows on the Rio Grande. I'm not really in a writing mood, so if you want some interesting odds and ends about Boquillas Canyon, listen to this Npr story. (though I have to admit, Npr tends to make me yawn...). And did you just change up your blog look? I like it! And since I've only been following for a bit, I'm wondering if my mind is playing tricks on me... :)

Terrific capture as always, Jill, you probably just see them a little differently than we do! I know that happens to me a lot! Hope you have a fun weekend! Enjoy!

Boquillas Canyon is where we bought the walking sticks from people across the Rio Grande. They used to be able to take visitors across to see their farms, but since 9/11 they cannot. I don't know if this link will work -- it is a post I wrote when I first started blogging before I knew anything about what I was doing (even less than I know now).; http://travelingrainvilles.typepad.com/traveling_home/2008/01/big-bend-nation.html

I really like the photo, too. So tell us, please, why aren't you totally in to the photo??

This looks like and enchanting and mysterious place to spend a day--or a lifetime!

Many shadow-seekers say,
“Oh, the one that got away!”
Why are you so uptight, folks?
Can’t you take light’s little jokes?

This a lovely serene photo--very elegant in b&w.

No need to comment, the stunning scene speaks loudly all by itself. The rugged canyons that line the river are stark, the shadows a bit foreboding. Yet the sun is strong and the monochrome rocks are almost glistening in their solar illumines. Gorgeous in a spectacular rugged beauty!

This is a great photo. Reminds me of a summer trip spent at Lake Powell. The majesty of the cliffs and water....

This photo, like most all of your photos, is easy to look at and get involved with. The irony for me is the fact that I am spending some time this Winter along theRio Grande in New Mexico. I'm miles and miles upstream from here, mbut I like to think about the water I saw yesterday being the water that others see today. I like the shadows cast by the tall canyon walls. Good stuff.

Peace.

Really awesome - And at first glance there is an ambiguous quality that suggests a quite different event. But it is what it is, and the contrasting light and dark works so wall.

Kelly said...

I think it's a wonderful shot! Interesting shadows AND reflections.

I love the black and white. Shadows always bring out the details in black and white.. even more so than in color photos. Perhaps our eyes are distracted by the color and less prone to see the tiny details.
