Vermilion Flycatchers

Vermilion Flycatchers. They're awesome, obviously. Look at 'em. Life gets a little better when they're around. These two are from Big Bend. You can find them in the desert-y southwest areas. They're pretty hard (impossible) to misidentify so Zac and I laughed a couple years ago when someone told us there were " a bunch of cardinals" in the creek. Hmmmm. Here's another shot of the same adult male in this post. I've got a couple others from Texas in my NA birds album on my website that I don't think I've put up here. (first guy is a juvie, guy in all the red glory is the adult, of course) SOOC Bird Photography Weekly Ruby Tuesday

Wowee . . what a splendid little fellow, so totally different from the cardinal, no wonder you had a giggle! I have seen neither in the flesh/feather yet there can be no mistaking either.
Just fantastic captures Jill.

Hope you are having a great time wherever you are at present.

I've never visited southwest (something I need to fix), so I'm not familiar with these guys. They are cute.

Lovely, pudgy bird. What a beauty glow - must be very attractive to the lady birds.

Nice!!!!! I nearly wet my pants when I finally got to see some last time I was in the Galapagos - perhaps I shall make that my next post. Hang on a minute - I already did post their photos - back in October. It is no fun getting old and senile, you know!

They're such beautiful birds. In autumn, when the males start wandering prior to migration, we often see them here in DFW. Always a pleasant surprise!

I really enjoyed Vermilion Flycatchers just down the street from my home when I lived in Mesa, AZ. I think those males define the color red. Fantastic photos as always Jill!

Beautiful, beautiful and most certainly not my state bird, the Cardinal, not hardly, not even close in fact. Have a fun filled week Jill~

Wonderful colourful flycatchers. Not a bird I know much about but they look rather small and really cute. Wish they visited our gardens here in Northern Ireland.

Great photos. It must take a great deal of patience to photograph birds.

Aren't they beautiful! we didn't have any bright red birds in the Pacific Northwest at all and I still remember when we saw our first Vermillion Flycatcher -- it was when we stayed one Winter in Tucson -- wonderful memory.
