This is a pretty sweet trail (in Western North Carolina, in the Shining Rock Wilderness). So sad that we didn't get to pound it all out because of some gnarly storms coming for us. Ever since The Incident, I have serious issues when it comes to lightening. I made the executive decision to book it on out of there when shit got ugly. Though Susan and I have discussed and we're gonna go finish that trail at some point, dammit.
Anyway. We did get to spend quite a bit of time and miles on said trail and it was pretty awesome. Didn't see a whole lot of people and had the place mainly to ourselves. It was really overgrown and not so much maintained, which is fine, but I did get annihilated by some bugs because of it. Worth it though. Skywatch

Incredible beauty there in North Carolina, and my word, I just read about your "Incident"...how terrifying that had to have been for you. I mean thirty minutes would be unsettling enough, but for gosh sakes, 5 long hours, never heard of a lightening storm that lasted so long...bless you dear one...whew, that was an awful experience for you to have gone through!
Once again, your photos are making me seriously upset that I'm working right now, and have to again tomorrow. afsdljdafsjlasdfjkl!!!!
It's completely understandable why you wouldn't want to hang out with Mother Nature, she's not to be messed with. Those are some pretty interesting rock formations and the eastern 'mountains' are quite smooth as compared to their western counterparts.
Hey, I just did a quick search, and it looks like that stunning flower is this: http://main.nc.us/naturenotebook/plants/yellowfringedorchid.html
Glad you hiked AND you all are safe and well. =)
Somebody is looking fit and agile :-)
Lovely stone outcrops, lowering skies and fine views.
Wow, such moody, grumpy, dramatic skies! Terrific captures, Jill, as always! Hope your week has gone well! Happy SWF!

I'm not surprised you found those moody clouds threatening. The trail looks like I great one to travel, so I hope you do finish it.
