PIPL are People Too!

Took a quick trip to the coast in December to check out some areas we hadn't been to yet (Sea Rim State Park and parts of McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge). Camped out and birded/played the next day. Saw a lot of good birds but I was happy mainly because I got my plover fix. Piping, snowy, semi-palmated and killdeer. About a dozen Pipings- a whole bundle of cute! I'm just going to say it: If you don't like plovers, something may be wrong with you.  (Top: Snowy Plover. Piping Plover with a Semi-palmated running in front. Below: Piping Plovers with a couple Semi-palamateds thrown in) Wild Bird Wednesday Communal Global Camera Critters
(I also saw a dead blue-footed booby on the beach, which I'm well aware sounds utterly insane, but this has caused an uproar with some pretentious and very a$$holey Texas birders.  It was the one and only time I didn't have my camera on me- end of the day, getting dark, just taking a casual stroll along the beach looking for treasures in the sargassum seaweed. Though I'd love to delve deeper into much about that, I'm refraining)

Oh, I agree with you that plovers are fascinating. I have to wait a few months before I'll see them again though. They've all flown south. Imagine that! :))

They never stay still long enough for me to get such a gorgeous capture.

I love watching Plovers as well but haven't found the time yet this year to head to the coast for a wader fix.

Oh my gosh those are so adorable....that first picture makes me happy just to look. I wonder if we have any here in Florida, must check in to that.

Any time you want to tell us the rest of the small-print story, I'd be interested!

Great photos of all the plovers and it would be fun to see all those in one day and to get photos of them all. They are all plovers that are not seen down this way.

Plovers seem so full of happy-happy-joy-joy, and are definitely über adorable! I really love the first and final photos.

(Your ultra-fine print paragraph at the end sounded drear, though. I had to look at your plover photos again to get some of that joy back!)

I have to say that gull IDing in Australia is not that hard!

Also agree with you comment about the waders! Splendid little birds.

Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

Plovers....that is a new one for me. They are so sweet and precious. Almost look like little chicks. Each shot puts a smile on my face. genie

Piping plovers are just so pale looking compared to most plovers. Amply shown in your shots Jill. Check out my Kentish Plover.

Awwww... of course they are. Your photos could certainly take a bird hater (if such am abomination exists) and turn them into a bird lover... PS..I hope you can help out the wildlife rehabber as they almost always really need the help... Michelle

Such pretty photos and the birds are adorable! We don't have plovers here and I've never seen them in real life -- but I can't imagine anyone not liking such a lovely bird :-)
